Has Momma Grown?

The first picture was at 7 weeks and 1 day. The second picture was taken yesterday at 10 weeks and 1 day. There probably isn't a whole lot of "seeing" difference in these pictures, but I am definitely expanding! Below is a picture also taken yesterday. You can probably see what all of me is "expanding." I think my butt has as much of a bump as my belly! lol :)

The Answer is...

This is what a kumquat looks like. It looks like a small odd shaped orange, if you ask me. Nevertheless, this is what we look like this week! :)

What in the World is a KUMQUAT?!!!

Well, this is what we are this week!! I guess I will have to look up a picture of a kumquat! See the info from babycenter.com about the 10th week of pregnancy! We are moving right along! :)

Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

9 weeks!!!

Here is the info on the 9th week of pregnancy! We are now the size of a grape!! :)

Your pregnancy: 9 weeks

Your new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain.

Cousin Brennan is Here!

Cousin Brennan was born Saturday at 8:25pm. He weighed 5lbs 9oz and was 18 1/2 inches long. We are still praying that the little guy and his momma continue to get better. They both seem to be doing much better! Beautiful baby boy!! :)

Our Little "Peanut"

Or should I say Our Little "Blob!!" We had our first sonogram yesterday! It was amazing to see the heartbeat "flicker" before our eyes. The heartbeat was 164 beats per minute! It was absolutely incredible! It was way cooler in real life because all you can see on the still pictures is a little blob with arrows saying BABY, but I still think it is neat to have the pics in hand! Daddy says watching the sonogram yesterday made it "more real." I definitely agree!! What an amazing experience!!

8 weeks

We now have webbed fingers and toes instead of "paddles!!" :) See the info from Babycenter.com about the 8th week of pregnancy.

Your pregnancy: 8 weeks

New this week: Webbed fingers and toes are poking out from your baby's hands and feet, his eyelids practically cover his eyes, breathing tubes extend from his throat to the branches of his developing lungs, and his "tail" is just about gone. In his brain, nerve cells are branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. You may be daydreaming about your baby as one sex or the other, but the external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl. Either way, your baby — about the size of a kidney bean — is constantly moving and shifting, though you still can't feel it.

Below is a picture of a kidney bean! Growing, growing, growing!! :)

Meeting the Doctor

We went for my second Dr. appointment yesterday. It was not what I expected, but went well. The receptionist had scheduled the appointment for us to be able to hear the heartbeat, but Dr. Cox said there was no way we would be able to hear it this soon. I tried to convince her to just try, but she wouldn't. Jennifer told me not to be disappointed if we didn't get to hear it, but I had no idea the doctor wasn't even going to try. :( But the good news is that I will have a sonogram on Wednesday, April 16th. I should get to hear/see the heartbeat on the sonogram.

Overall the visit was a pleasant experience. I hope the pleasant experiences continue! Hopefully next week I will have sonogram pictures to post! :)

I took my first "belly picture" yesterday. Hopefully we will start growing soon. It will be interesting to look back at this pic in 7 1/2 months!!

7 Weeks!!

Baby has doubled in size this week. We are now growing little "paddles" on our arms and legs that began to form last week!! Daddy laughed when I told him about the "paddles."See the info from BabyCenter.com for the 7th week!!

Your pregnancy: 7 weeks

The big news this week: Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities you're daydreaming about holding and tickling. Technically, your baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of her tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that's the only thing getting smaller. Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry. If you could see inside your womb, you'd spot eyelid folds partially covering her peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of her nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin. Both hemispheres of your baby's brain are growing, and her liver is churning out red blood cells until her bone marrow forms and takes over this role. She also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in your baby's growing intestines is bulging into her umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from her tiny body.

Setting Up The Nursery!!

This weekend Grandma and Grandpa Oakley came over between Uncle Joshua's baseball games! Daddy and Grandpa Oakley moved the desk out and Mommy and Grandma Oakley moved Baby's stuff in! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Oakley and Daddy!!
(Don't think anything of the color of the room yet. We won't find out if Baby is a boy or a girl for a while. The room just happened to be blue.)

6 Weeks!!

Baby Skiles seems to be gowing a nose, eyes, mouth, ears, arms and legs this week!!! The information below is from a weekly email I get from Babycenter.com! Check out what happens in the 6th week of pregnancy!! We grow each week!! :)
Your pregnancy: 6 weeks

This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil bean.
