27 Weeks

Moving right along!

How your baby's growing:This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

Doctor's Appointment

We had another appointment yesterday. Things seem to be good, but I did measure a little ahead of schedule, but not as far ahead as what Baby Waves thought. I have had the concern since we got pregnant that I was bound to have a big baby. Rachel's daddy was 9lbs 11oz!! The doctor confirmed with me yesterday that in general, the size of the baby does "run in the family," however I was only 7lbs 6 oz when I was born, so maybe we will average out and have and 8 pounder! We can only hope. I just fear she will be large because of her daddy! :) We'll just have to see! :)

Baby Waves!

Saturday morning we went to Baby Waves! We were so excited to get to see our little girl!! :) She was very, very active, and at first wasn't really willing to cooperate with us. She would hold her hands up to her face, then reach down and grab her foot and bring it up to her face, move around some more and then just hold her hands at her face! Finally I said " I wish she would put her hands down for a while." And she did! It was only for a short while, but we got some good pics of her face at the end. According to the sonogram she weighed 1 lb 15 oz. and the tech said she measured at 26 weeks and 6 days. (I was only 25 weeks at 2 days at that time) So she is a little bigger than she is supposed to be, but it doesn't bother me, and I don't really know how accurate the sonogram measurements/weight is...

Overall it was a very pleasant experience and several family members got to go: Gma Oakley, Gma Skiles, GGma, Granny, Aunt Jennifer, Aunt Monica, and of course me and Daddy! It was wonderful to get to see her again, but this time is whole different way! :)

There is a Difference This Time!

There does seem to be a difference since the last belly shot that was taken. Rachel must have grown quite a bit in the last 5 weeks! A guess "bigger is better," well, at least for Rachel...I don't know about for Momma! :)

The pictures below were taken at 20 weeks and now at 25 weeks. And at the very bottom is a picture showing how much I have grown since 7 weeks! INCREDIBLE!

House Update

We went out to Goddard Friday night to check out the progress on the house. We were able to see the the concrete walls and that they had been waterproofed, as well as the plumbing in the basement floor. The concrete floor will hopefully be poured sometime this week. (Weather permitting) Below are pics we took on 8/8/2008.

A Rutabaga???

I didn't know what a rutabaga was either...it looks like a big turnip to me! Whatever it is, that is the approximate size Rachel is in week 25! :)

How your baby's growing: Head to heels, your baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn. She's also growing more hair — and if you could see it, you'd now be able to discern its color and texture.

Harley Davidson

As many of you know, Rachel's Gpa Skiles is a "Harley Man." I bought Rachel a Harley outfit for her to get her picture taken with Gpa someday. Below is a pic of the outfit as well as a picture of Gpa on his bike. :)

24 Weeks

Time has seemed to go slow the last few weeks...but we are still trudging along! :)

How your baby's growing:Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Another Doctors Appointment

We had another doctors appointment on Thursday of last week. Everything seems to be going great. The doctor said I am measuring right on track for 23 weeks. The next "big" event is Baby Waves on August 16th. We are very excited! :)

Beaver Lake 2008

The Building Continues!

We were very surprised yesterday to find out that more had been done on the house...or should I say "THE HOLE." On Wednesday or Thursday they poured the footings to be able to start pouring the foundation! It seems to be rolling right along! We are excited about what has been done this last week! :)
